I don't know what you have now, but you probably could turn your worm gear motor into a very large servo. How many rotations does the motor output make and how many degrees does the solar unit rotate?

This initial 'home' position you talk of, how do you know where 'home' is now? How are you determining where 'home' is?

So , from example in the morning the panels are in their initial (home, horizontal position)

How did they get there? How do you know they are there?

As some of friends said,i suggest magnetic or laser activated proximity sensors. However if you put proximity sensors you will constrain the slew angle to approx 359 degree if you keep sensors activated all the time. If you want to slew continiously in normal use, you can activate sensors with a relay while go home command is given. Maybe activation could be done in coding by reading sensors only go home command.
