How to connect your toaster to Windows

Using the technique described above you can control games with your toaster.

awesome stuff! who would have guessed. i guess someone younger with more device hacking experience than me! wow so much prototyping that can be done with that top stuff

Step 1). Remove power cord..............

yep 10 points

Wondering if our toaster is new enough? Only one way to find out.....

Crap, ours has funny screws and the only driver I have for them is way too fat. But we do need a new toaster anyway, so perhaps time to simply smash this one open.

This is real yes? Else even as we speak, 100s nay 1000s of Arduinites will be irreparably smashing their (wives') toasters to bits.

Seems like something Dave Jones would come up with....

Yeah now there will be a rush of folks wanting to know how to get the mains hooked up to an Arduino with a relay.

Just a bit of a tip, before you smash open your toaster, this post might have been better done on April 1st.

Been getting toaster-claims already, Nick ?

I don't want to get into a jam.

I have been trying to get our toaster to work with this, which Arduino board do you recommend?

Well, as the video stated, if the toaster was made in the last couple of years it should have a USB interface in order to upload the toaster driver software. If you can find that, then you won't need an Arduino, but can plug it directly into your PC.

However the lack of (obvious) handles that you can push may limit its usefulness when playing Doom.

I guess my project is Doomed :frowning:

Maybe I will scrap this idea and turn the toaster into a re-flow unit to do SMD soldering

Yep I thought exactly that.

Maybe this year there should be an RFC for Internet control of toasters like the the coffee pot one.

Well done though. Loved the part where when he had already set the lever to "a" he had to hit the lever for the "a" in "toast".

That was certainly the funny bit.

Still might be able to use our toaster.
Note sure how the remapping would work.

A Leonardo might be best for this application.

Yes, as I understand it has USB support, useful as a keyboard.
I only have Bobuinos UNOs and ProMinis now, will have to look into getting a Leonardo for this application.
Maybe 4 servos also.

the reason i loved it was simply because its the last thing id expect to have a usb port in there with a programmable MCU. when i think toaster i just think heating element & switch.

Oh, crumbs!
I don't have enough 'bread' to make one of those.
