How to emmulate a sony camera using lanc

I am trying to emulate a Sony or Canon camera(master) to control a slave device, such as the Atomos Shogun. I want to rec/stop using a remote that acts like a Sony or Canon camera.

The problem with basic Lanc remotes is they require you to run a cable from the camera to the remote, and then back to a video recorder using a y cable. This setup is necessary if you are not recording with the camera, but instead with a video recorder like the Shogun. I can't find a vendor that sells something like this for a reasonable price, so I may need to make it. Libec-REC sells a remote that can be a master or a slave, with a simple 8-pin microcontroller, but it is way overpriced.

The hardware seems easy, it's the software where i struggle. any advice will help, thanks.

What software? Have you read the tutorial on How to get the best out of the forum?

Thanks for your reply. I am green when it comes to software/firmware, I need someone to guide me on writing it. No, I have not read the tutorial.

BTW, I have seen many other projects using an Arduino for Lanc, but those are speaking to the camera as a slave. I need a Record remote that acts like the master/camera. This way you don't need a Y cable between the camera and video recorder.

Go read the tutorial then come back and try again.

You will need to provide definitions of a lot of terms you use that are not day to day arduino or software terms. I have been a photographer for over 60 years, and I am not 100% sure of what you are trying to do.

Do you have a Lanc remote for your camera?

I have a modern Canon camera, so yes it has LANC. The only time I use it is with the TC-80N3
