How to measure high sound pressure levels?

I need to read sound pressure levels between 70 and 120dB. I understand there are sensors like the KY-037 with adjustable gain, but I cannot find any information on the maximum dB it can handle.

Any ideas?

The KY-037 and KY-08 sound modules are unsuitable for doing any accurate measurements.

The analogue output is simply an un-amplified output from the microphone.

For measuring sound pressure levels you will need a logarithmic amplifier/detector to cover the wide range of sound amplitudes you want to measure.

A better module to use would be something like:

It has it's own wiki page here.

That module does the logarithmic conversion for you, and is even factory calibrated.

Thank you, but that seems very expensive. I don't even need anything very accurate. I was really hoping to find a simple sensor for ideally <$5.

The Sparkfun Sound Detector has a peak detector giving an analogue output that represents the sound amplitude.

They also give you information on adjusting the circuits gain to tailor it to your requirements in their hookup guide.

Still not sub $5 I'm afraid.
