HW-131 not delivering 5V when configured to 5v

Dear all,

I'm new to the Arduino/ESP32 S3 world and have several exciting projects I'd like to explore. I recently acquired an ESP32 S3, some breadboards, and an HW-131 module to power the breadboards.

I have a 12V DC charger and connected it to the HW-131 chipset. The green light is on, and everything appears to be working fine. However, when I set the output to 5V, I'm getting 11V as the output voltage. On the other hand, when I set it to 3V, I get the expected 3V output.

I have two HW-131 modules, and both of them produce the same result. I've also tried using a different DC charger, but I'm still getting the same result.

Could someone please explain why this device is not providing the expected 5V output?

Best regards
JD

HOW do you set the output to 5 volts? Looks like there are jumpers for off and on, but no adjustments. DO you have any documentation on the device that we can see?

Hi Paul,
I used the jumper to set it to 5V. When I switch it to 3V, it is working fine, 3V as output. On Off, no power.

I found this documentation however there is no brands on the 2 devices.

Looks like they have a separate voltage regulator for each voltage. Do you get 5 volts from any pin on the regulator on the 5 -volt side?

Start with a physical examination of 5v pin and traces to output pins.

Then remove all jumpers and measure output.

Then monitor output and restore jumpers one at a time, then indifferent order.

Look for anomalies at each small step.

There are two things that are getting you. The voltmeter is very high input impedance so it does not load the circuit. The regulator will have some leakage with nothing to load it down it will go very close to the input voltage. Connect a simple LED or a resistor across the 12V power and it should go where you expect it.

No, I never succeed to get 5V. However, 3V works

Then your devices are not working as you expect. With NO documentation, there is not anything else I can suggest. Good luck.
