Inductive NPN Sensor

So I am using a Turck Inductive npn proximity sensor for a school project.

and followed this video: Proximity Sensor Interfacing to an Arduino (sinking sensor) - YouTube.

I am using:

Board Arduino Mega

External Vin=10 V- to power both sensor and arduino ( as he does in the video with the 9v bat)

OK so it works, but my probelm is when i hook up the Input to the sensor, the INDICATOR light is slightly dim, and that's not right. It should be completely off but it isn't.

I'm stumped, and don't understand....when i physically remove the input from the sensor to the arduino it works as it should, the green power light is on and the indicator light is off. When the sensor has been activated the indicator light comes on as it should.

I think I am overlooking something... hmm.

Parasitic powering.

Which indicator light? Where is the datasheet for the sensor?

Are you sure you have the NPN type? Part number and link?

If so, you have it connected as in the diagram?

Details: 1K pullup connected to Black wire and +5V, Brown wire connected to +10V, Blue wire connected to GND and 10V supply ground, Black wire connected to Arduino input.
