Insert value in Serial Monitor and save it into a variable

Hello dear community,

I want to insert/type a value into the Serial Monitor, and than give/save this inserted value into a variable. I have already read this forum-article Article but, unfortunately, I could not get any further.

Any help will be appreciated

Did you try the example that you linked to ?

I did read the example number 4. but, correct me if I misunderstood it and being wrong, it does not save the inserted value into a variable.

dataNumber = atoi(receivedChars);
