Insertable MP3 player. Has anyone done it?

This is a general electronics question, but something I've been looking for for quite awhile.
Basically what I'd like to find is a small mountable/insertable SD or microSD card player slot, that could be placed in a device..... say that already has 4.5V power that can be tapped, and already has speakers.
I'm not sure if an Arduino board would be needed or not.
Do you see where I'm going with this?

So lets say you have an electronic device, like a Halloween toy or other. And when you turn it on, it plays sounds.
By snipping the wires to the speakers, and hooking up this SD reader/player, you could have it automatically play your own customized sounds instead off mp3 files, when you turn it on.

Anybody???.........

The DFPlayer will do what your asking DFPlayer_Mini_SKU_DFR0299-DFRobot
Take care if you order, there are 1 or 2 clones of the DFPlayer that might behave a little differently

" The module can be used as a stand alone module with attached battery, speaker and push buttons or used in combination with an Arduino UNO or any other with RX/TX capabilities."

I'm a little confused by their explanation, does that mean you can do this with the product alone or that you also would need to buy an arduino UNO also. The DFplayer itself is only around $6.
How would you mount it inside another device? Would you need a breadboard to be able to wire up the speakers and power source and then I guess some kind of mounting bracket I assume

Yes.
