IoT template hangs uploading plug and make

Just got my first Arduino (Uno R4) as part of the plug-and-make kit; I'm a raw rookie.

In the "Getting Started" chapter I made it to "IoT Templates". I click "Go to templates" then "Use template" and it completes "creating your thing" and "compiling sketch". It starts "Uploading Plug and Make Getting Started" when it hangs.

The pixel screen is scrolling a message: "Connect a modulino combination!". I connected the "buttons" and the "pixels" modulinos using the supplied Qwiic connectors, and each modulino has a single green LED lit.

I've tried this a couple of times but clearly have no idea what I'm doing. Anybody got an idea?

Thanks in advance!

Starting with Arduino: My Recommended Approach

It seems you might not be fully ready to start the project just yet, but that’s perfectly okay! We don't know your skill set or what resources you have at your disposal, so I recommend starting with some online tutorials. While the quality varies, many tutorials are excellent and will help you build a solid foundation.

Here’s How to Get Started:

  1. Learn the Basics: Begin with the fundamentals, such as controlling outputs (like LEDs) and interpreting inputs (such as reading a switch or receiving a message). LEDs are a great starting point since they’re inexpensive and most Arduino boards come with a built-in LED.

  2. Explore Basic Electronics Tutorials: Look for beginner-friendly tutorials on electronics concepts. These will help you understand key principles that you’ll need as you progress.

  3. Recommended Resources:

  4. Learning the IDE: During this process, you will also learn what an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) is and how to use it to write, generate, and upload your code to the Arduino.

  5. Practice and Learn at Your Own Pace: Everyone learns at different speeds, and that’s completely normal. It may take a few months to grasp the basics, but with consistent practice, you’ll see progress.

Hello monstertuner,

I have not been able to replicate the issue you are experiencing. I suggest starting the process from scratch by removing your Uno R4 WiFi device first.

Please go to https://app.arduino.cc/devices and delete your Uno R4 WiFi device. After that, visit the template page at https://app.arduino.cc/templates/plug-make-getting-started and try the whole process again.

Also, make sure your Modulinos are properly connected. If the Modulino combo hasn’t been detected after uploading the template, please try resetting the board by pressing once the RESET button of the board.

If the issue persists, please contact Arduino support directly via https://www.arduino.cc/en/contact-us/ for further assistance.

Best regards,

im having the same problem!

I don't know how I broke it, but deleting the device and restarting got me going again. I am still having difficulties, but there is so much more to read and study before I ask any stupid questions.
