IR Receiver from a Harmony remote

Hi there,

I am looking to build a smarter IR Blaster with Arduino. I took apart an old Logitech Harmony remote that used to be able to be programmed by sending the codes via the tail end of the remote. I found what looks to me like an IR receiver behind a lens but it only has two pins and all other IR Receivers on the internet has 3. It also does not have any chip numbers written on it.

I figure it is something like a IR photodiode which they then used to decode the codes.

Putting it in a circuit with the shirriff's IR Remote code does nothing. 1 pin ground, 1 pin D11. Am I missing something, can this even be done?

This is an IR diode to SEND the signal.

Yes you can do it with an IR Led...see here

..you may need to adjust the circuit (or not) for a photodiode.
