I am making a Security System for my room and I have a remote that I made. I want to use an IR Led to sent an "Arm" command and an "Disable" command. How would I send different codes with a arduino.
There are several software libraries floating around to make it a pretty simple and educational project. This one looks pretty detailed. Be sure to use series current limiting resistor with your IR led.

@retrolefty, I have been messing around with that library and I had issues with my LED not working with resistors. However, when I removed the resistor it worked. You specifically said to be sure to use “series current limiting resistor with your IR led.” I thought all resistors limit current. You're just saying to use a resistor with the IR LED, right? Any idea why my iR LED isn't working with 100 ohm resistor?
I'm using the High-Output Infrared LED from RadioShack.
However, when I removed the resistor it worked.
If it was only a 100 ohm resistor then I don't believe you. However, anything over 1K would probably be too much.
I'll check and try it again when I get home, but I am pretty sure it was a 100 ohm resistor.
