I’ve not seen this before, is it a new enhancement ?
If so, how are we supposed to use it ? -
Cannot see post #2 or 3.
Hi @LarryD.
We have had the topic unlisting capability ever since the forum was migrated from the SMF forum framework to Discourse in 2021. When a topic is unlisted, it is not included in the topic lists (e.g., "Latest"), but it is still publicly accessible. The humans forum maintainers haven't made much use of the unlist feature since we would typically just delete a topic that has no value (i.e., spam), and if a topic does have value then we want it listed. I believe they do sometimes use it in the Italiano category.
However, the specific usage of the unlisting capability you noted here is indeed a new enhancement.
Discourse provides an automated spam detection system. When a post is detected as spam, the system flags it. The flag is then reviewed by the human moderator team who determine whether the post is truly spam, or if it was a false positive.
In the case where the first post of the topic is detected as spam, the system now automatically unlists the topic after flagging it. This reduces the impact of the spam during the interval between the flag and the review. If the reviewer determines that the detection was a false positive, the system relists the topic. That is what happened in this case.
It is only used by the moderators.
The forum software treats the "Unlisted 5 hours ago" and the "Listed 47 mins ago" as posts.
