LCD CONTRAST

I have a 16*2 LCD which does not respond to a pot on V0 .
The text on the LCD is barely visible.
So how can I control the contrast on My LCD.
Can I control the contrast by tweaking the program.I am using the common Liquid Crystal lib.

Maybe you wired the potentiometer incorrectly.
Maybe your LCD is bad.
There is no contrast control in software on common LCDs.

Hi,
Show us what you have and how it's wired up! Then perhaps we can help you more. Yes my crystal ball is broken again and I can see what you mean!!

Mel.

You may have a display that is designed to operate over an extended temperature range. In that case you will have to supply a negative voltage (with respect to GND) to pin 3.

Test this out with a 9v battery (or any other power supply). Connect the + side of the battery to GND. Disconnect the end of the potentiometer that is currently going to GND and connect it instead to the - side of the battery.

Another possibility is that you are using one of those blue displays with white characters. In that case the display will be almost impossible to see if the backlight is not powered.
