Led/rgb road sign

Hello im working on a Project that involvs led or rgb.
Im a pilot car driver and try to make the oversized sign on truck led so digital.
Is this possible i have seen led road sign like 50 mph with red outlining and White text.
Can i do this for my idea, like red board and yellow middle frame and lastly Black text.

So how do approch this and can it work

Measure: 1200mm L H 200mm ..

  1. set your requirements (you mostly did that),
  2. buy a bunch of bright LEDs (attached to strips is convenient),
  3. attach them to the board in the shape of a big 50 and the outline as you want, and connect it all to a power source.

Don't yet see where an Arduino or related microprocessor comes in play in a simple billboard like this.

Ok. Is There another forum for this led?

How big led can i use and how thight should they sit together.
Do i need resistors???

Thank you sorry for language

The lighting strips are prefabricated. All you do is cut them to size and apply 12V.

Do you mean these rgd strips you buy.
Or something can you link or show a pic

Kind of curious as to which states allow "modified" signage for oversize loads? Those I have dealt with have very specific requirements for signage. And many won't let an oversized move at night. Maybe you want this for your pilot vehicle? Not sure about the rules for them. If for the car, disregard this. But if for the truck, I highly recommend checking with the DOT in each state you'll be passing through.

HI,
I agree with @Danger.
There are rules about size usage of such signs.
It may be worth you checking with your road/licensing authority, who should have that info.
I know you can have LED signs, they are also used as direction signs on emergency vehicles.

I did a quick look for regs here in Australia, and couldn't find any lighting restrictions or mention of LED signage.
Although there probably is if I look deeper.

I found regs on power level for warning lights/beacons for LED, but not signage.

It could be a good project as looking at what is available in outdoor mobile LED signs you can easily be up for $1000's .

Do you want a message type sign with an array of LEDs so you can change what it says.
OR a sign that just has OVERSIZE in a pattern of LEDs, as in individual letters?

Tom....
