Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could help me out. Is there any type of frequency you can use with an Arduino that you can communicate up to a mile away like a walkie-talkie? Is there an RF communication shield for the arduino?
With LoRa radio transceiver modules, you can send short text messages many km, if you have clear, unobstructed line of sight. Not audio, though.
For continuous long range, check out what the r/c boys are up to. TBS Crossfire is one example.
Be sure to check local regulations for frequency, power output and duty cycle.
You may want to get your FCC ticket, or the equivalent for your jurisdiction, the first level unlocks most of what's of internet, and is easy to get, mostly a matter of maths, common sense and a very basic knowledge of electronics, maybe Ohm's law and a few more things.
In the USA, school children study in the morning, and are radio amateurs after passing the official test in the afternoon. Those events happen all over the place, dunno if they serve lunch in between.

Maybe.
Depends where you are in the World.
Hi, @ryandewitt
Exactly what do you want to transmit?
Data or Voice?
Some more info on your project would help us advise you.
Thanks.. Tom..
