I not sure what they are called. I have a device that has an LED on it. I have mounted this device inside a project box and would to put a peephole (??) in the project box so I can see the LED on the device inside the project device which is solid ABS.
I drill holes for that purpose, and if large enough, the LED lens can protrude a bit.
I would drill a hole and insert a small section of acrylic rod to block the hole but still let the light through.
Otherwise you could actually mount the LED on the surface of the box with an LED adapter, or just glue it in place with some clear Gorilla glue.
I like 3mm LEDs for this, they will press fit into a small hole.
