Lots of static sound teensy 4.1 w/ rev d

Hi, I have the audio shield set to take line in audio. When my wires aren't connected, there is no static sound coming out, and sound generated on the shield is perfect. However, when my wires are connected to line in, there is a large amount of static sound.

I tried wrapping my wires in aluminium to see if that would help, but there wasn't any change.
Has anyone else had the issue with static? What should I do to solve it?

the ground of my line in is connected through the audioshield, which is the same as teensy ground and breadboard ground(i think).

I noticed that there was a vGround with a warning to not attach anything to it, but I'm not sure what it is there for.

Aside from grounding or interference from the cable, what could it be?
