Measure lengh of filament

Hello,
i would like to measue the length of filament after extrusion out of the extruder to check how many meters filament i extruder and spool on the filament spools.

Is there any solution availabe to measue the length and report it on a display based on arduino?

Sure. Wrap the filament around a spool and count the turns of the spool. The count times the circumference of the spool is the length of filament you have created.

if you has a mechanism which react on movement of filament, then you can easy convert mechanical movement to electrical impulse which Arduino(or whatever) can count

A rotary encoder shaft turning generates pulses, filament against the encoders shaft turns that shaft, count the pulses.

One pulse could be 1/4 cm . . .

Hello hf74arduino

Welcome to the worldbest Arduino forum ever.

It's very simple:

Weigh the 3D model after it has been printed and then a little maths helps to calculate the length of the filament used.

Hello,
thanks for your replies but it not really help.

Anyboday has a sample code or project available?
I have a drive shaft on the winder but which kind of exra hardware i need to do that?

Hope anyone can help.

best regards

Do a search on 'arduino wire cutter'.

Consider a reflective spot on the spool and an IR source/sensor to indicate the reflection. Count the reflections = spool turns.

Fishing line is a filament. The fishing line lead counter measures the length of the filament. Precisely answering the title of this thread.
