Mega housing with shield

I have come to a point where i have no more hair to pull. I have prepared a project for a motorhome application, i have no intention to mass produce and i do not want to have an Arduino board stuck to the wall with duct tape, i need an enclosure to accommodate a mega 2560 with attached ethernet shield, i do not need to include much in the way of components, the project requires accelerometer/gyro, temperature/humidity and a link to an external BLDC motor control board, all of which will be externally mounted and connected via plugs and cables to the outside of the enclosure. While there are literally hundreds available for the mega, i dont find one that had provision for the ethernet shield. The project is well suited to a portenta but does not mitigate the expense, please help an old man get his hair back.

Hello Donald_Pittendrigh

Welcome back.

Take a view to get some ideas:

Can't you use a generic plastic housing and cut some holes. Search results at a local supplier: https://www.robotics.org.za/index.php?route=product/search&search=case.

Alternative would be to 3D print (either yourself or outsource).

Hi @Donald_Pittendrigh

I'll suggest a combo of solutions, first check the most popular 3D pre-designed sites, some of them have designs that hold the 2560 in place, and different covers designed.

Next steps:

  • some sites will let you contact the designer to customize the original for a low fee, try it.
  • Select a basic design with enough room to put the rest of the stuff and make the required holes by yoursefl.

Some of those sites will print the design for you and mail them, others will send you the file required to send them to a 3D printing service of your choice.
Try looking for:

  • Thingiverse
  • Cults3d
  • Turbosquid
  • Printables
  • Google the terms mega2560 3d printed enclosure...

Good Luck!
