Modbus RTU protocol

hi my name is David and i bought this multi turn encoder from amazon...

and i want to read the positions from it with an nano or any arduino board if a nano cant do it...however i am a rookie at coding and need step by step help...i also bought a MAX485 incase i need it...

the thing that confuses me is the encoder has 5 wires coming out but the MAX485 has only 4 pins..do i just ignore the zr wire??? Or do i need a different 485? any wiring diagram and sketch would be helpful...this is a new kind of sketch i never encountered.. Thanks in advance...

This encoder is for a golf cart i bought and need to make it electronic steering...i am a handicap person and cant turn the steering wheel. so, i want to make a steering wheel on the floor so that i can steer it with my left foot...I chose this encoder because it is absolute and multiturn, incase while the golf cart is turned off, and the steering wheel gets turned, it knows where it is upon start up.
