More problems with Windows 8.1

Wow, there seem to be a lot of problems getting the Arduino Uno to work with Windows 8.1. After spending hours reading and trying things, here is what I have tried and failed on:

  1. Utilized a Ricochet Modem USB driver instead of the Arduino one.
  2. Attempted to utilize a Prolific USB driver, but it never showed up in my device manager.
  3. Allowed for downloads of unsigned device drivers
  4. Provided alternative DC power supply to the board
  5. Attempted to use some of the older drivers

The only thing that I have read about and not tried is to go out to the store to buy a high quality USB cable.

When I first started, I had the Arduino driver show up in the USB section with an Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) Code 43 error. I had some success in that Arduino eventually showed up as COM port 3, but this time with a Code 10 error. But I forgot how I got there. I have since uninstalled the driver, and are now back to the driver in the USB section with a Code 43 error.

Is there something I am missing?

CH340 driver?

I had thought that it was for the Windows 7 OS. Haven't tried it? I did not see where to get it earlier, so I'll look for it. I'll look for it and give it a shot.

Thanks
