what do i need to get to drive 9 dc motors?
Individually? All together? Just on/off? Variable speed?
each is individual, though 2 could be together, variable speed on some, others not ;) building a robot
Take a look at adafruit's motorshield (http://www.adafruit.com/products/81), it can control 4 motors. And there's a tutorial (http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20030) on how to use two of those at the same time.
one problem, I don't think i can do with less than 9 motors, and buying 3 would... suck... XD

Would it suck more if your project never got off the ground?
Seriously, tell us the requirements and specifications, and quit the vague hand-waving.
There's no hand waving, I've given pretty much all the information I have. And the problem with 3 is that it takes up a lot of room. I told you, i'm building a robot, it has 9 motors, each one is a different size and does a different function. given that most of the motors haven't been chosen yet, there's not more to say. most of them, apart from 2, are small, yet-to-be-determined gearmotors, the other 2 are 12 volt window motors

What's that then?
What are the specs of the motors? Stall current?
Btw, Thor, it looks like your solution might do the trick after all, thanks! i didn't realize it could control 4 motors +2 servos
