MPU6050 and Arduino Nano - still rotating and other problems

Hello, I have an problem with my MPU6050. Everything is fine, but when I dont move with sensor, I see that there is still some motion. Can someone help me how to reduce it? I tried some "clever" ideas like if is diference smaller than .... set values to zero but it was useless. Here is the code i found on the internet and I made some small changes. Also there is a problem that the diference between position of the sensor and 3D model rise in time. After few seconds are totaly in diferent positions. How to solve this? Thanks a lot.

Most likely, these offset corrections are wrong. Where did they come from?

  // Correct the outputs with the calculated error values
  GyroX = GyroX + (-1.4); // GyroErrorX ~(-0.56)
  GyroY = GyroY - (-0.3); // GyroErrorY ~(2)
  GyroZ = GyroZ + GyroErrorZ; // GyroErrorZ ~ (-0.8)

well I found on the internet this code for Processing IDE and I just try to set those values the best I can. When I saw it rotates in some way I changed values. But there are still motions. I think there should be some filter or idk...

Hi, @tomasburancgi

Did you write this code?

Any reason you did not use a Library to read the sensor?
https://www.arduino.cc/reference/en/libraries/mpu6050/

What motion, what outputs?

Thanks... Tom... :grinning: :+1: :coffee: :australia:

The usual approach is to average a couple hundred gyro readings at startup, then subtract those from subsequent readings.

Example:

// MPU-6050 Short Example Sketch
// Public Domain
#include<Wire.h>
const int MPU_addr = 0x68; // I2C address of the MPU-6050
int16_t AcX, AcY, AcZ, Tmp, GyX, GyY, GyZ;

float gx = 0.0;  //gyro offsets
float gy = 0.0;
float gz = 0.0;

void setup() {
  Wire.begin();
  Wire.beginTransmission(MPU_addr);
  Wire.write(0x6B);  // PWR_MGMT_1 register
  Wire.write(0); // set to zero (wakes up the MPU-6050)
  Wire.endTransmission(true);
  Serial.begin(9600);
  Serial.println("Keep sensor still until gyro offsets printed");
  delay(2000);
  // collect gyro data for calibration
  for (int i = 0; i < 500; i++) {
    Wire.beginTransmission(MPU_addr);
    Wire.write(0x3B);  // starting with register 0x3B (ACCEL_XOUT_H)
    Wire.endTransmission(false);
    Wire.requestFrom(MPU_addr, 14); // request a total of 14 registers
    AcX = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3B (ACCEL_XOUT_H) & 0x3C (ACCEL_XOUT_L)
    AcY = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3D (ACCEL_YOUT_H) & 0x3E (ACCEL_YOUT_L)
    AcZ = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3F (ACCEL_ZOUT_H) & 0x40 (ACCEL_ZOUT_L)
    Tmp = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x41 (TEMP_OUT_H) & 0x42 (TEMP_OUT_L)
    GyX = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x43 (GYRO_XOUT_H) & 0x44 (GYRO_XOUT_L)
    GyY = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x45 (GYRO_YOUT_H) & 0x46 (GYRO_YOUT_L)
    GyZ = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x47 (GYRO_ZOUT_H) & 0x48 (GYRO_ZOUT_L)
    gx += GyX; gy += GyY; gz += GyZ;
  }
  gx = gx / 500.0;
  gy = gy / 500.0;
  gz = gz / 500.0;

  Serial.print("Gyro offsets ");
  Serial.print(gx);
  Serial.print(", ");
  Serial.print(gy);
  Serial.print(", ");
  Serial.println(gz);
    Serial.println("corrected gyro values follow");
}

void loop() {

  Wire.beginTransmission(MPU_addr);
  Wire.write(0x3B);  // starting with register 0x3B (ACCEL_XOUT_H)
  Wire.endTransmission(false);
  Wire.requestFrom(MPU_addr, 14, true); // request a total of 14 registers
  AcX = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3B (ACCEL_XOUT_H) & 0x3C (ACCEL_XOUT_L)
  AcY = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3D (ACCEL_YOUT_H) & 0x3E (ACCEL_YOUT_L)
  AcZ = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x3F (ACCEL_ZOUT_H) & 0x40 (ACCEL_ZOUT_L)

  GyY = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x45 (GYRO_YOUT_H) & 0x46 (GYRO_YOUT_L)
  GyZ = Wire.read() << 8 | Wire.read(); // 0x47 (GYRO_ZOUT_H) & 0x48 (GYRO_ZOUT_L)
  Serial.print(GyX-gx);
  Serial.print(", ");
  Serial.print(GyY-gy);
  Serial.print(", ");
  Serial.println(GyZ-gz);
  delay(200);
}

No that code is not mine. I just made some changes. Well that library is great and Sketch example MPU6050_raw works for me. I see there is part in the code:

    // use the code below to change accel/gyro offset values
    /*
    Serial.println("Updating internal sensor offsets...");
    // -76	-2359	1688	0	0	0
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getXAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // -76
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getYAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // -2359
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getZAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 1688
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getXGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getYGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getZGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print("\n");
    accelgyro.setXGyroOffset(220);
    accelgyro.setYGyroOffset(76);
    accelgyro.setZGyroOffset(-85);
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getXAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // -76
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getYAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // -2359
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getZAccelOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 1688
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getXGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getYGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print(accelgyro.getZGyroOffset()); Serial.print("\t"); // 0
    Serial.print("\n");
    */

Here I should add my data from IMU_Zero, right? I would like to ask you some things. I get this data:

16:42:40.301 -> .................... XAccel YAccel ZAccel XGyro YGyro ZGyro
16:43:27.655 -> [2109,2110] --> [0,20] [-2171,-2170] --> [-9,10] [1167,1168] --> [16381,16393] [-44,-43] --> [0,4] [13,14] --> [0,5] [-12,-11] --> [-2,1]
16:43:30.248 -> .................... [2109,2109] --> [0,1] [-2171,-2170] --> [-10,10] [1167,1168] --> [16375,16393] [-44,-43] --> [0,4] [13,14] --> [0,5] [-12,-11] --> [-2,1]
16:44:17.706 -> -------------- done --------------

Which values should I set? Its mess for me to be honest.
