Native serial port, can't obtain info

Hello
This must have been covered several times, but I've googled it and cannot find a clear answer nor a solution
I have a Windows 10 desktop (Ryzen 5 1600)
When I try to connect my Arduino boards (Uno, Nano and Micro), I always have the "Native serial port, can't obtain info", and the only port I see is COM1
I googled it, and found that installing the CH34x driver could help
I did it, and was able to get COM4 and access the boards
Today, it doesn'w work anymore...I don't think I've changed anything ! And I'm back with only COM1 and the same message. But this time when I try to re-install the CH34x driver, it doesn't change anything !
What am I doing wrong? This is very frustrating...

  • Open device manage, look under Ports and note all ports
  • Plug in Arduino
  • Does a new port appear under Ports?
  • Or does a device with a ! appear anywhere in the list?

I couldn't see anything showing up in device manager when I was plugging in a board, so I thought about a possible bad cable
And actually, it seems it was my cable.......Works just fine with another one !!

Thanks
