Hi,
I have recently decided to try to get into using displays with arduino and have found that I spend more time researching the terminology than I do actually trying to build anything so I figured I would see if I could get some pointers.
The project I'm working on calls for a small, round screen and I managed to get a couple on the cheap that I'm hoping I can use (although I don't mind buying something else if anyone has any input).
After looking around for a few days I've decided that a) I know nothing about display related software, and b) I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
I believe I can get this working (but it is ENTIRELY possible I am missing something), so I would like to know if anyone has any info on how I could go about hooking up this display to an arduino (or other micro controller if arduino doesn't make sense) and what sorts of libraries I should be looking at?
One questions would be, there are two FFC connectors, and I figured one was for the backlight, but they both seem to have all of the clock and data pins, so why would the backligth need that? and which one is for the actual screen?
It seems like the most relevant thing is the type of driver IC the screen uses (ST7789 in this case) and how the screen communicates (SPI here, although the IC might dictate that? I'm not quite sure what it all means).
I found a few people who seem to have done similar things but they seem to know a lot more than I do so it's difficult to suss out what they are up to (eg. Need help with esp32 and 1.54" 3 wire 9 bit display - Displays - Arduino Forum)
Any input short of "this is too difficult, give up" would be appreciated.
Datasheet attached, and here are links to a couple of photos:
