I've noticed some odd behaviour since the latest forum software update.
The home page shows e.g.
and
After clicking the "unread" in the second screenshot and reading the topic, I go back. After that, the "unread" in the first schreenshot changes (as expected) but the "unread" in the second screenshot does not change (disappear). The same thing happens with new topics.
I have to refresh the page to see the updated counts.
Windows 10 Home, Firefox 113.0.1 (64-bit)
Note:
Something similar used to be (maybe still is) the case with new topics; the homepage would show two new topics for a category but clicking the "new" revealed none. As far as I have observed, that is caused by users deleting their topics.
Do you have an idea of approximately when that was? I ask because the Discourse forum framework is updated frequently by the Discourse staff as part of the forum hosting plan and many of those updates are not noticeable to the users.
I noticed a somewhat similar problem of the new notification indicators not updating after I had viewed or dismissed a notification after the user impactful update discussed here:
So I wonder if the regression in the "unread" counts occurred there? In the case of the problem with the notification indicators, I no longer experience it so that one might have been fixed in one of the updates that came after.
I should probably have said "maintenance"; I think that it was when you announced it that the site would in "read only" mode for a while; possibly Forum maintenance notification: 2023-03-17 02:00-06:00 UTC but for my feeling it was not that long ago
I believe that was only done to perform maintenance on the hosting server so I wouldn't expect the work done during that period to have any effect on the forum behavior as might be the case when the Discourse framework is updated to a new version. But I am also far from knowledgeable on this subject matter so I suppose anything is possible.
Haven't really noticed the deleted ones.
But now I just read all the new posts in a category.
And there is still a new post count for it.
So I went back and searched for it but did not find it
