Can you spot the difference between these 2 devices which I did not as I wondered why one of my displays briefly turned into a miniature smoke machine after exchanging it with the other?
Read the labels next to the pins and the difference is obvious.

Thats how those displays are some are GND,VCC,SCL,SDA and some are VCC,GND,SCL,SDA.
Its not a problem as of course you would check the connections before powering them up.
And if you look on the back, the ones with a regulator are for 5V use and the ones without are for 3V3 use.
When I fit them on PCBs I provide jumpers to swap the supply pins;
So you were one of the lucky people in the world who saw the "magic smoke" that makes electrical devices work ...
The proof is: as soon as the magic smoke is released, the appliance stops working ...
