Polarized connectors

Hello All. I'm frequently in need of low current connectors for my projects. Most of the wiring is 28 or 26 ga and I am currently using Dupont connectors. I'm seeking wire to wire connectors I can pin myself, are polarized, and are small in size considering the I'm using. I'd appreciate any help in identifying possibilities and sources. - Scotty

  • I use JST and DuPont connectors for nearly all wiring.

  • After 50+ years of playing with wires , I now only use silicon insulated wires, mostly 28, 26, 24 AWG stranded wires.
    Notice 28AWG wire has 16 strands, 26AWG is 30 strands, 24AWG is 40 strands.
    :scream:

  • Polarized DuPont connectors are made by having a male and female connector in one header.

Amazon has this selection.

BNTECHGO Silicone Wire. Yeah, love that stuff. Flexible as hell, high temperature and doesn't shrink with heat. Good idea with mixing pins on the Dupont connectors. I'll do that.

  • Make sure power supply “source” pins are female . . .
Helps prevent shorts if the connector is separated.

Not having any problem with crimping. I got this guy a few years back. Does it all in one shot.

  • I too have a ratcheting tool, however, find the inexpensive Platinum yellow crimper is my go to.

  • The removable carrier strip portion makes it very easy to manipulate the connector.

  • For completeness, these are the JST type connectors I settled on using for air wires.

  • I use the same Platinum yellow crimper on these also.

Molex KK types.
Proper crimping and stripping tools.
Years ago, crimping tools were the exclusive domain of companies like Amphenol with horrendous prices like £400.
Now thanks to more democratic availability, £20 buys you almost the same.
Where money is no object, and certification rules, it going to be £400.
A good crimp is very satisfying.
Yes, I like silicone as well. Long term flexibility and first class environmental durability.
For sensors in harsh working conditions, it was either silicone or polyurethane (PUR).
For ultimate toughness, PUR has the edge. Lapp cables.
Can't say the same for so called Arctic cable.

Doesn't bear thinking about at 240-V AC

Being unfamiliar with Molex KK types, I browsed the internet to check them out. Are these solely wire to board connectors?

They are board to board or board to anything else.
Just like the JST terminals described before.
Getting the right type in any of these Molex/JST polarised terminals can be hard work but worth it.
I just happened to start with Molex KK. All options are possible, pitch, rows, upright, right angle.
Either will do the job. You could use bare wire and PCB headers, but the Molex etc. are pretty robust, easy to use and secure.
