Posts not displayed in corect order

I have noticed a few times that when I have posted a first reply to a question, and seen it as post 2 / 2. That when I come back to the thread there are other posts that have been made and my post has been pushed down the order. This sometimes results in me not seeing these extra posts an I miss the information.

This has just happened again but this time I was ready and took a screen dump showing the timing.

This happened before any editing of my post had taken place. Anyone else noticed this? Is it a fault with the forum software? Or is it something else?

Yes, and it's tremendously annoying. Not sure what's going on. The other posts definitely don't appear until you click on Reply. It's like the web page which the reply is started from doesn't reliably update(but does sometimes) while the reply box is open.

I have had that too
I thought I was the first one to answer and then discover there has been many other posts …
Annoying but not too frequent

Yep, although it has made my occasional fit of pique about others not reading all the postings a little ... embarassing.

I see it a few times every week and just ignore it. That is better then having my answers going to the wrong post.

I wonder if @jremington or @DrDiettrich can remember what they were doing when they replied to this thread?

It just happened again on this thread as well. But the posts were not out of order, I only saw the two extra posts after I had made my reply?

I agree that it's somewhat annoying to find other contributions in between, in detail if I was working some time on a good answer.

I found that sometimes the new answers show up while answering, with a nasty comment like "Reply has been modified in a different window..." and potential loss of the last few lines of my reply under construction. After your rant I possibly understand better the options "Reload" and "Ignore" where Reload might be the chance to see new answers before submission of my own answer.

Hi @Grumpy_Mike,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue. I've seen a few other reports of it happening, so it's possible that it's a bug with the forum software.

One thing to try is to clear your browser's cache and cookies. This can sometimes fix minor glitches with websites and forums.

Another thing to try is to use a different browser. If you're using Chrome, try using Firefox or Edge. If you're using Firefox, try using Chrome or Edge.

If you're still having the problem after trying those things, you can report it to the forum administrator. They may be able to help you troubleshoot the issue or identify a workaround.

In the meantime, here are a few tips to help you avoid missing posts in a thread:

  • Use the "Mark thread as read" button when you're finished reading it. This will mark the thread as read so that you can easily see if there are any new posts when you come back to it.
  • Follow the thread. This will send you an email notification whenever someone posts a new reply.
  • Use the "Unread posts" link at the top of the forum page. This will show you a list of all the unread posts in the forum.

I hope this helps!

Mod edit,
Although there is no spam hidden in this reply the poster went on to post more AI nonsense with added spam. Please do flag these.

it's definitely a bug :innocent:

You can refresh the page before submitting the reply. The composed reply will still be there; you'll have to give it a few seconds before doing the refresh else you will have the loss of the last few words / lines; not sure what the "autosave" interval is.

I suspect that this is caused by network issues (in the broadest sense, not necessarily your system).

Do NOT reload; just continue with your reply and you will not have the loss

Thanks, noted

I hope you tested with the above reply

It happens to me when someone is replying....I normally do what @sterretje does, but sometimes it updates when I scroll down.

With the greatest respect did you write that or is it a product of sort of AI chat box. It displays all the lack of insight that you get from AI.
