Potentiometer Footprint - What is EH?

Hi.
I am using a wheel type potientiometer which has the following footprint

The pins labeled "EH" are located where 2 metal tabs stick out the back and go through two holes in the pcb. What is "EH" and do I need to connect it?

I assume its ground but unsure

Thanks,
Fish

If the footprint drawing is correct, it looks to me like a shielded potentiometer wiring (maybe EH stands for "External Housing"?) for blocking interference in an electronic layout.
So yes, if you're using it for some sound application it could go to ground if it's your concern.

Anyway, in doubt just use a multimeter and see how it works, not a hard thing to do...

I think those are probably for physical strength, holding the pot more securely to the PCB, and not for any electrical purpose. You could isolate them or connect to a ground plane, if that provided and useful shielding, I guess.

Pls post a link to the datasheet if possible. It could be shielding or possibly just more mechanical support.

Yes, we're still waiting for some more information from the OP...

Anyway IMHO there's no harm in soldering the two extra pins and eventually ground them (if used in a sound application).
