Hello
I am sure someone has asked before but my searches to date have been either incorrect or in the wrong spot. I have a new NANO and I am wondering if it is safe to add the 9V battery to a NANO that is connected to a USB connection. I have put the NANO into a screw terminal adapter and want to attach the 9V battery to the 5V pin.Would hate to smoke the NANO on my first day
Thanks
Rob
Whatever else you do, DON'T DO THAT
Why do you suppose that the pin is labelled 5V ?

Electronic devices are not forgiving, you must make correct connections !

Even if this was done by mistake and then corrected, that circuit must forever be considered as not reliable.
You connect your 9V battery to the VIN pin
Thank you one and all. I thought is was a bad idea but I did not know about the VIN Pin. The life of another NANO was saved.

Kudos. Most people connect then ask afterward if they might have damaged something.
Well, now @robo_learning is out of immediate danger, someone should say it:
You can run a Nano, and maybe a few LEDs and sensors, with a 9V battery for a few hours, but that's about it.
Anything more taxing than that and the 9V battery wont cut the mustard. Save them for your smoke alarms, where they can do some good.
My favourite way to power a Nano is 4x AA NiMH rechargeables. Not only more environmentally responsible, but, with a voltage around 5V, can be connected to the 5V pin and will give a good battery life also.
Don't connect 4x AA non-rechargeable this way, because that's more like 6V and could damage the Nano. Unfortunately, 4x AA non-rechargeable is not quite enough to power the Nano through the Vin pin. You will need 6x AA for that.

Thanks it will be powering more than that unfortunately. A 'Friend' was the one who thought about the 9V on the wrong pin. That being said I guess I will need to look into some form of adapter for 120V.
The programming part I caught on pretty well save for a few missteps. Those {} are fun.
The journey continues

And yes connected to the VIN pin Cheers
