Personally, I like a hot iron, 340°C
60/40 solder is what many use but 63/37 is very nice too.
Have both .5 and 1mm on hand.
Always use liquid solder flux, can be found in a pen on Amazon.

A commercial PCB holder/soldering jig is quite useful but expensive and takes up a lot of space on your work bench. We can make our own version of this jig.
