Problem with Arduino Nano -

Hello,
I have few Arduino Nanos and all of them behave following way:

  • when powered they blink orange LED, but not with 1s interval - this is faster and somewhat irregular - You can see that on Broken Arduino Nano? - YouTube
  • when I connected them to linux box I got following messages in dmesg:

So this suggest problem with USB cable - but I have tried few different (however they are from one batch, so if all USB cables are bad :slight_smile: - I should get later today one different mini USB cable) or with drivers on Linux box. Drivers should be OK, since Arduino Duemilanove attached to this box works perfectly, and FTDI chip is the same on both boards AFAIK.

  • customer of mine, who is using Windows XP have similar problems - COM port does not show, despite drivers from FTDI are installed.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Looks like USB cable is OK - using the same cable I can connect to SparkFun's USB XBee explorer. I get new USB serial port in system, so it looks like cable is working.

So maybe just few broken Nanos...

Don't know what's going on here. What I do know is that it is definitely not the USB cable. I have the exact same problem. Looks like a batch of broken Nano's to me.

Just found out that if you reset the board multiple times it will eventually show up in the IDE. After that you can upload a sketch to it and from there on it will behave as expected. Problem solved (at least for me it is).
