Program not uploading - FTD1232

I am trying to load a program on a Mini Pro. I may have made a mistake having both USB power going into the boards as well as 5 volts into the Arduino.

I get this error

Arduino: 1.6.9 (Windows 7), Board: "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini, ATmega168 (5V, 16 MHz)"

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 9 of 10: not in sync: resp=0xef
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 10 of 10: not in sync: resp=0xef

avrdude done. Thank you.

Problem uploading to board.

Hope it's not a faulty FTD1232 PCB (NON CABLE)

Thanks

Do you have a Promini with a '168 chip (older), or a '328P chip?

What's an FTD1232 cable? More typical is FT232.

Thanks CrossRoads, it's a NON CABLE adaptor

I think it must have died (2 weeks old) as I just removed it and programmed a Nano okay.

I noticed I got the same error notices come up when I forgot to state the board type. When set to Nano it worked okay on the Nano.

When I went back to the FTD1232 I found it did not update the USB Port number on changing USB sockets so I guess I must have killed it unless someone can bring it back to life again.

I may have misunderstood reading, but read an article blaming Microsoft for soft bricking the FTD1 chips where they were Chinese fakes of real chips. I went to a website and downloaded an exe driver installer, ran it, and hey my programmer board is alive again.

Hope it lasts, and hope helps someone else. Current PC is Windows 7
