Using Arduino Interfacing w/ Software on the Computer

Hi.

Ive played with a arduino uno r3 for a while now and have fried it ...
Im thinking of doing some playing around with just the chips and a breadboard so i was wondering about just getting a usb programming cable/device .
there are a few to select from so i hope someone can guide me to which one is the most useful one.

I think a USBasp is the cheapest solution

can this be used with the arduino ide. as easy as with the uno?

Yes,

You just chose Tools->programmer->USBasp

and

File->upload using programmer
