Project enclosure walls too thick for Micro USB

I have a project enclosure that was laser cut using 3.7mm thick material. I added a cutout for a micro USB female connector. The problem I am having is that the material is slightly too thick to make a reliable USB connection between the male USB cable and the female connector inside the enclosure.

Does anyone know of a place to get male USB cables with a longer header (I am guessing that's the name of the cable part I am referring to. The shiny metal part..:-)) Or, does anyone know of a part number of a female connector that is extended to go further off the PCB? I can go either route, but I can't go with a thinner material for the enclosure.

I am open to all suggestion on how to overcome this problem.

Thanks

Not seeing anything on google.
Can you trim back the plastic mold on the cable?
Or use a small flat file and enlarge the opening of the enclosure?

They make custom faceplates and have all the wires in whatever lengths you need. I found the delivery to take a long time, but it was worth the wait. Here's my project box with the plate.
