Quick question: new arduinos

Evening,
I got an arduino breadboard kit from oomlout (this one).

I've put it together and the power light comes on but that's it. I'd assumed blink would be preloaded.

Will blink be on there?

Basically I want to know if I've cocked something up or if it's worth continuing to load something on (which will involve taking the chip out of an arduino since I haven't got an FTDI cable).

I cant see how you could go wrong with the printed overlay.
Have you got the red led and the microcontroller the right way round?
Green must be ok as its lighting up.

Theres an email address on the page you linked to.
Im sure they could tell you if blink is on there.

Gordon

I spotted that but I thought I'd ask here and then email them in the morning.
The red and the chip are the right way round.

The overlay I got in the pack was different to the one in the manual, so I've printed that one and have started again.

The other thing I've noticed is that the chip socket doesn't connect to the breadboard very well, so I'll try it with the chip straight into the board

Yes the blink sketch is built into the boot loader so it should come on immediately.

Thanks for the confirmation Mike.

It was the chip holder. It's blinking away now I've plugged the chip directly into the breadboard
