Read OBD-II PDI values without Bluetooth transmitter/receiver?

Hi everyone I was curious if anyone might know what all would be involved in piecing together a circuit board that can read OBD-II data directly from an OBD-II port, without the use of either a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver, or the OBD-II TTL adapter that's out there? With how far forward my OBD-II port sits out, any sort of module with any depth of more than 1.5" or so interferes with where my right leg sits. I'm looking to use some sort of adapter cable (OBD-II to DB9, OBD-II to USB, etc.) with a right-angle connector on it, and run that cable directly into my circuit board. I realize I will need to layout a dedicated board between my OBD-II adapter cable and my Arduino, but I'm not finding any sort of schematic or anything out there for this. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks a bunch!

Hi,
google OBD 11 extension cable

there are some low profile right angle plugs as well.

Thanks for chiming in, Tom!

Yeah I've seen the right angle extension cables, and planned on using one for my project, but I think I'd like to integrate the ability to read from that port directly into my board anyway, just to not even have to have a separate external adapter. Kind of want to build myself an all-in-one package
