That is a nice page. Concise and still full of information.
As a cross-reference, DroneBotWorkshop goes into detail with a joystick-controlled RC using NRF24L01. (this link)
That looks like a fun project. For starters I would get rid of the L298N. Sor example the L298 driving a motor in the bridge configuration will lose about 1/2 of the voltage from a 6V battery pack. Use one with MOSFET outputs. Forget 9V smoke alarm batteries they will not last. There are many similar projects on this forum, check them out.
