RF receiver with Arduino Uno

Hi,
We have a school project using Arduino and we are making hazard lights for a car. We want to be able to remotely put on the lights. We have a RF receiver and a remote control for that specific receiver. We are just a bit unfamiliar with how Arduino Uno and RF receiver work together and how to write the code. Does anyone have knowledge about RF receivers with Arduino?

This would be a good place to draw an annotated schematic of what you plan on building. It will make it much easier as you progress with the project.
