The only thing that I did differently was I used the 9v battery to barrel connection to power it so it could be standalone with no cable running to it. The problem is that when I use the 9v battery it does not work more than a few times. The card/tag will be read by the reader but the relay will not energize to cut the 12v so I can open the box. Furthermore, when i have it plugged into a wall outlet through the serial cable it will work properly for a good amount of time but then I have to cut the power to the magnet and reset the arduino for it to work again. I have a large electromagnet for the lock, is there a chance that the magnet could be causing interference, especially with the relay? Today I had to change the relay out because it had power but would not function for the normally closed contact to open. Thoughts?
Yeah a starter kit that I have came with an attachment to connect a battery, like the one in a fire alarm. I will try the 6 AA's Ill buy the stuff right now. I just to not need a cable going to the arduino and it still work so I will have to give that a shot. Thanks
I did right now I am using the serial cable that comes with the Arduino plugged into an outlet. I will be searching for an alternative in the next few hours. Ill let you know if it works.
So how many amps can an Arduino Uno handle, I got it hooked up to an old block from a cell phone charger. 2 amp if I remember correctly. What is the 5v pin specified for?
