RFID-rc522 box problems

I recently built a lock box using this schematic:

The only thing that I did differently was I used the 9v battery to barrel connection to power it so it could be standalone with no cable running to it. The problem is that when I use the 9v battery it does not work more than a few times. The card/tag will be read by the reader but the relay will not energize to cut the 12v so I can open the box. Furthermore, when i have it plugged into a wall outlet through the serial cable it will work properly for a good amount of time but then I have to cut the power to the magnet and reset the arduino for it to work again. I have a large electromagnet for the lock, is there a chance that the magnet could be causing interference, especially with the relay? Today I had to change the relay out because it had power but would not function for the normally closed contact to open. Thoughts?

9 volt battery? Is it possibly a PP3 fire alarm battery? If so, change it to 6 x AA batteries.

Yeah a starter kit that I have came with an attachment to connect a battery, like the one in a fire alarm. I will try the 6 AA's Ill buy the stuff right now. I just to not need a cable going to the arduino and it still work so I will have to give that a shot. Thanks

Please change. The fire alarm battery does not manage to deliver the current needed.

I did right now I am using the serial cable that comes with the Arduino plugged into an outlet. I will be searching for an alternative in the next few hours. Ill let you know if it works.

Know that USB is specified for 0.5 Amps but the 5 volt Arduino pin is not.

So how many amps can an Arduino Uno handle, I got it hooked up to an old block from a cell phone charger. 2 amp if I remember correctly. What is the 5v pin specified for?

A quick guess, say 100 mA from the 5 volt pin provided Vin is not used. 20 mA for an I/O pin.

Yeah powering by the barrel jack is a bad idea, i was just reading up on it. I am only using the 5v as a way to power a 5v relay.

I might use a Nano rp2040 Connect that I have, its missing the wifi antenna, it broke off, but it might be more suitable for the project.
