Robot car moves forward on startup, but not when controlled from app

I am having the exact same problem as another user reported here:

Fully charged battery, all connected wiring is correct. I find no Bluetooth signal from the robot but can connect via wifi. Can see video signal. Moves forward on start up. All I get from every other instruction sent from the app is just a beep.

@drda please post the sketch you are using and a wiring diagram of your project.

[edit]

Bluetooth should be visible when power is applied. Verify your BT module is connected corrrectly and post a wiring diagram.

I'm the person who reported this a few months ago. I can't tell you much, but basically Elegoo sent me a replacement IO expansion board, which didn't make any difference. Then they asked me to unplug all but one of the motors, but that also made no difference. Then they just refunded me.

I got to keep the kit though, so I tried programming it a bit myself (I'm a total beginner). I was able to manually write code to make the motors spin...so I programmed it so that when I turn it on it will drive forward for a few seconds, then back, then spin around, etc. My next step is to write code to respond to the remote control but I haven't figured out how to do that yet (and I haven't tried very hard). I do know that the remote control works to some degree because it makes a light flash on the board.

That's all I can tell you. Good luck!

Thank you. Clearly this is not a simple error or misconfuguration.

This means: connect the bluetooth module to VCC and GND, and it will be visible. You should provide feedback... in the form of answers as well as wiring diagram and sketch.
