Rotary Encoders Pushbutton common problem

Hi,

All Rotary Encoders with Pushbutton have this annoying problem, their pushbuttons disengage even when pressed down whenever the pressure isn't strong, it's always need to apply extra force to keep the electric contact.

It's so annoying that these pushbuttons don't behave like any other simple pushbutton, if down remain pressed, no extra pressure needed. Is there any rotary encoder which pushbutton remains engaged while down no matter the pressure applied on it?

So, pushbuttons on rotary encoders have this silly 3 states:

  1. Up Position as Off
  2. Down Position as On
  3. Down Position as Off (Sad but True)

Can anyone recommend a rotary encoder without the 3 silly state? One that Aliexpress sells it would be nice!

Thanks

Typical Rotary Encoder with Pushbutton On/Off state problem

In my experience with many rotary encoders I have never seen what you describe. I bought some of these and am happy with the way that their push-buttons work.

I think that is your problem. It is well known that they do not sell the best quality components, it is somewhat of a lottery as to what you get.

Just like @groundFungus i have never had an encoder that behaves like that. The annoying thing I find with some is the tendency to accompany a push with a small rotation change.

One thing you might try is to increase the current through the switch contact, by using a lower pull up resistor.
