seegway arduino project

Hi guys I'm new community, I wanted to discover the world of Arduino. I would like to create for a university exam seegway to check with various advanced control techniques (To be implemented in Matlab Simulink).
Should I buy everything you need, and I wanted some tips from you if you can. I thought I could serve:

  1. Arduino (which one to buy? I should make a kit just in case?)
  2. gyroscope - accelerometer (which used to be easy to make?)
  3. 2 engines (such as taking the same question? I saw some of the interent and it seems to me to manage them better, I would need a motorshield. Is true?)

Thank you for your attention. I thank you in advance for your patience

Try a search for "self balancing robot", or maybe "self righting robot".

If you want something bigger, like a home made Segway, try the July/August 2009 edition of Elecktor magazine, article on the Elektor Wheelie. Part 2 is in the September 2009 issue.

I have a book named "Arduino Robotics", and it has a detailed article about building a DIY segway. Shows what parts are needed, how to build it, and even goes as far as giving you the complete program (arduino sketch). Uses 12 volt electric wheelchair motors and wheels, a Sabertooth 2 x 25 motor controller, and accelerometer and gyroscope. The book estimated the total cost was around $500. The Sabertooth is around $125 and I found 2 used motors for about $75 each on Ebay. I only went as far as pricing parts, and decided that the project was a little too ambitious for me (and I don't know if I'd have the nerve to ride it after I built it).

I think electrically it would be fun, mechanically would take more than I could accomplish alone.

thanks for your help. I want to buy this book. I hope I find it useful. bye
