Sensor To Detect The Movement Of A Snail In A Transparent Box

I'm asking for help from the community to assess which sensor would be most suitable for detecting the movement of a snail in a transparent plastic box.

box is 20x15x10cm and it should be noted that the snail climbs the walls and walks on the ceiling!

Thanks for your support.

Could you put a grid of wires on the inside surfaces of the box ?

One of the newer radar or human presence sensors but they may be too close to work well. At that range, a small Lidar might be the best bet.

An ESP32-CAM would work. Look up object detection tutorials.

Yes, we have seen snails before! But so much important, is there light inside the box? Any external light will be reflected off the surface of the box, even if it looks transparent to our eyes. So, photography is out unless you can light up the interior of the box so a shadow of the snail can be seen in a dark room.

Glue a neodymium magnet on her back

Do you only need to detect that the snail is moving or do you need to determine its location?

To what end are you trying to detect movement? I mean why are you trying to do with this information?

Are these edible snails? I once did a consultation for the University of Thessaloniki Greece, to try and see if changes in lighting could reduce the growing time of edible snails.
