Servo control with 4017 decade counters

Hi y'all

It has come to my attention that it is possible to control up to 10 servos using only 2 I/O pins and a dirtcheap 4017 decade counter. You can expand this to 20 servos, 4 I/O pins and 2 4017s.

I first saw this on these pages:

Now this looks a bit messy (the code) so I googled it a bit to see if anyone had used it for actual projects, but didn't find any. However I did find this servo shield which is based on exactly that IC:

http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/images/product/servoshield.pdf

I liked the fact that this comes with a simple interface library, but unfortunately the link to this library directs to a page saying "This Account Has Been Suspended"

Anyway I'd like to ask if anyone here has tried using these chips for servo control? And if so how did it work out? Or if by chance anyone has the missing servo shield library? Or perhaps another library?

And in general all input on the matter is very welcome.

PS: I actually did manage to find the code for the mentioned servo shield library (I think) on github: GitHub - renbotics/Servo-Shield: The Renbotics Servo Shield is an Arduino-compatible shield that uses two 4017 decade counters to drive up to 16 servos using only 4 pins (digital pins 6 to 9) and as little as one 8bit timer (Timer 2) in standard mode or two 16/8bit timers (Timer 1 and Timer 2 for Duemilanove or Timer 3 for Mega) in high accuracy mode. It also includes a 196 point breadboard style prototyping area., but I have no idea whether it actually works, so I would love to hear from someone who has used it.

PPS: I'm really not sure whether this is the right section for this sort of question. Perhaps it would have been better to post it in the "Motors, Mechanics, and Power"-section?

What's the problem?

Send a reset (MR) to synchronize
Wait 1 to 2 ms (to position servo 1)
Send a clock pulse (CP0)
Wait 1 to 2 ms (to position servo 2
Send a clockpulse.
Wait......

And so on up to 10

GOTO line 1

Pelleplutt,

What's the problem?

With what?

Clear?

Haven't got the foggiest...

but I have no idea whether it actually works, so I would love to hear from someone who has used it.

Pelleplutt,

Look if you are incapable or unwilling to contribute anything of worth why don't you just stop spamming the thread with useless blabberings? Clear?
