make servo control

hi everbody ? want to robotic arm with arduino ,? research that general use motor shield, but ? dont use motor shield ? want to make my driver .? research motor control 74 hc 4017 ,but ? dont find code and application
can you help me ???? :frowning:

A quick Google search turned up this:

2 Arduino pins to drive 10 servos

o.k thanks but it hasn got code and connection

Are you planning to use DC motors or servos? There is a big difference in how you connect and use them. Servos seem more likely to be appropriate for a robot.

If you are planning to use servos have you got a servo and have you studied the servo examples that come with the Arduino IDE? If there are parts of the examples that you don't understand, let us know what they are.

If you are planning to use DC motors give us a good description of how you intend to use them.

The "Read his article for more info." on the referenced article has the below link.

I took a look at that page on the HC4017. The 4017 certainly isn't a servo controller. I reviewed the specs on the 4017. It appears that the best it might do is activate one at a time fully on or off and only in a particular order. Not very useful IMO. But maybe I'm not understanding the application here. No proportional control and can't even activate just one at a time unless you do it in the right order. Perhaps there is an I2C servo control chip. Could certainly program a mini atmel chip to do that and pretty cheap, too.

this link my servo motor ,? have 8 servo
? want to Drive 10 Servos using only 2 Arduino Pins - Blogs - diydrones ; same this project
but it hasnt got arduino code and connection
you proffer to me about servo sontrol ,at least shake
and same code

Craftsman,

I'm not trying to be critical of your pursuit of your project, but you need to understand how an analog servo is controlled and why that chip might not work to control a servo in analog mode. I might be wrong about that, though. The chip is a decade counter that increments the active line 0-9 with successive incrementing of the control circuitry. If there was a way to AND a pulse width line with each of the lines 0-9 then I could imagine that you could selectively send different pulse widths to different servos. But from what I can tell from the function table, there is no strobe line that can change the pulse width on lines 0-9 to anything other than the clock period. . . . and just now typing this explanation, I see that this may be the way to change the pulse width . . . vary the clock cycle to the desired width from 1ms to 2 ms (i believe this is the analog servo control range) then pause before starting the sequence over again to effect a 50 hz or so pulse on each line. So maybe i could work, but the guy does not do much explaining on the video and the servos appear to be moving in an all-or-nothing manner. I'll give it bit more thought.

Hi craftsman,

You could try this one, http://wiki.makeblock.cc/index.php/Me-Servo_Driver. They got example code on the wiki.

Their main connector is RJ11. But there also have 4pin connector.

@dejswa, I think the purpose of the chip is to steer the servo signal from the Arduino to the different servos so that one Arduino connection can control several servos.

I might be wrong about that, though

I agree. You probably need to do a little more study on how the 4017 chip is being used and how hobby servos work.
