Hey Arduino forum
I am doing a project in school were I need to connect a small object (round cylinder with a diameter on 13 mm) with a motor inside to a phone. The phone needs to be able to send a signal to the cylinder and start the motor. Can anyone help me with a chip or something that can do this?
This module is small:

Not the easiest to program, though. I used a combination of mbed and openOCD to get my application into it.
Not the easiest to solder either - 0.05" pitch connections.
It's got a few GPIO pins but you wouldn't be able to drive a motor directly.
Also quite a bit of learning to do to get the BLE side right.
Maybe there's something better/easier that I don't know about - hope so.
Good luck!

Hey.
Would you be opposed to connecting an audio jack to the phone?
You could the connect, say a attiny85 MCU via an analog input and read a certain frequency that could be generated with an app on the phone.
Kind of low tech, but it might work.
Just an idea.
There is https://www.simblee.com/, which claims to be programmable with the arduino IDE. Even worse to solder (0.5mm SMT); I recently ordered some breakout boards to play with.
The Intel Curie module might qualify as well. It's used on Arduino101, but the module itself is much tinier.
13mm is very small, though!
