I've found the gearmotors that I need at Pololu but I cannot find any timing belts and cogs on their site. In order to implement my motor (rotating gun platform) I will need a ratio reduction so I need either gears or timing belts. I assume timing belts will be more forgiving when it comes to mechanical tolerances--I've had trouble keeping gears from binding.
Anyway, where can I find a good selection of timing belts and cogs? It would be best if I could buy an assortment, actually.
I can't find any timing belt products on that site.
I don't understand how timing belts can be so popular in industrial robotics and even hobby robotics but it's so hard to find belts and pulleys. Even places like pololu that sell tons of motors, and people like sparkfun, don't sell belts and pulleys. I have robbed some stuff out of inkjet printers but it's not the sizes I need. Am I not using the right search terms?
I can buy belts on one website, and I can buy cogs on another website, but they are never the size I want and I don't know if they will work together. I don't know if these things are standardized; I don't think they are. Is there no website that sells toothed belts and cogs, in various sizes, that work together?

Have you looked in your local yellow pages? I'm pretty certain you'll find something in there for the Dallas area. Here in Phoenix I typically use a company called "Bearing, Belt and Chain" - you probably have something similar in your area. You might also try McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/). Another option might by Tractor Supply Co (http://www.tractorsupply.com/). How about Small Parts (http://www.smallparts.com/)...?
You can probably find them a bit cheaper other places, but they have an actually usable site search (good for resolving a large dependency chain of parts that must mate), and a large selection of matching belts and pulleys. I used the "40DP" (0.0816 pitch) variety as it seems to be pretty popular.
For just about anything you can imagine McMaster-Carr has it. A fun and easy place to shop with filters to allow you to pinpoint what you are looking for. Service is great. Careful - you can get lost and find yourself spending too much time just browsing.
