Speaker with MicroSD card

Hello,
I want to make a speaker play music from a MicroSD card. Some tutorials showed only the MicroSD card module, BD139, and a speaker. Some people said this will fry my board or that I will need an amplifier. Can someone help with the components I need and maybe a schematic?

To get decent audio output (as opposed to just a beep or crude sound) you will need an amplifier.

Here is a similar circuit based on ATTiny microcontroller.

I tried the same using Arduino UNo and a 2n2222. It worked.

Yes it will work but if you turn the volume all the way up, the music will be very distorted and you may damage the speaker.

Good choice Jim! Anyone who thinks a 1 transistor amplifier will do the job hasnt done the sums.
